Psychotherapy is… soul care
The word psychotherapy consists of two Greek words psyche (soul) and therapy (care and service). When we serve our soul through the process of intentional care, this creates a positive ripple effect on ourselves and the world around us.
My Style
My approach to psychotherapy is intuitive, collaborative, and person centered. As a seasoned therapist, I pull from a wealth of knowledge, listen deeply to your needs, and work together with you to serve and care for your soul. I integrate my teachings from my clinical mental health foundations and interweave meditation and spiritual practices. A typical session is a blend of breathing techniques, deep discussion, psycho-education, laughter and play. My intention is to craft meaningful, friendly, warm, and caring conversations to help you move forward in your life more fully.
What happens in a session?
Step 1: Opening - Breathwork or Guided Meditation is introduced to mark the beginning of our time together and to help you get centered and focus. This is also an opportunity for you to set your intention or reflect on a goal you’d like to achieve in the session.
Step 2: Moving In - This is when I check in with you and listen for any feelings, thoughts, or content, that yearn to be witnessed and heard. Based upon my intuition and experience, an idea about how to best support and/or challenge you, will bubble up.
Step 3: Insearch - During this phase of the session, questions are posed to access the root issue (the symptom). Through exploration and deeper reflection, a discovery is often made.
Step 4: Finding Voice - At this point, the root has been exposed and instead of getting rid or extricating the root, we’ll spend some time reflecting on why the root is here. Insight usually emerges from this process and clarity is gained.
Step 5: Taking (Wisdom) Into the World - In the last stage, healing messages or inner guidance shines through. And then with that wisdom, you can decide how to honor the message. As the session comes to an end, a closing activity (e.g. breathwork or visualization exercise), is introduced to serve as a transition back into your day.
Common Questions
Why care for the soul? Caring for the soul helps us to cultivate a rich and meaningful life at home and in society. The work that you do in therapy is not just for you, but it’s also healing past and future generations. Healing our wounds and addressing them in a healthy way, is one of the greatest gifts that we can give to ourselves and the world.
Is psychotherapy about eradicating the symptom or being problem-free? No, not really. It’s more about giving careful attention to why the symptom is showing up, asking deep questions, and reflecting on what you can learn from your human experience. It’s also about listening to your inner guidance, trusting yourself, and moving forward in a way that is RIGHT for you.
What kind of psychotherapy sessions do you offer? I offer individual online therapy sessions. These sessions are typically 60 minutes in length. However, I do offer longer sessions (e.g., 90 or 120 minutes) upon request.
How will we meet for our remote sessions? I use the Zoom HIPPA compliant online platform. All of our discussions are protected and confidential with this secure form of communication.
How often do we need to meet? That really depends on you and what you’re needing. I work with clients weekly, bi-weekly, once every 3 weeks, once a month, or on a as needed basis. I encourage you to tune into what you need and find a frequency that feels right for you.
Do you work with insurance? Yes! I’m currently contracted to work with Cigna, Evernorth, Optum, Tricare, and United Healthcare. I’m also waiting to hear from a number of other major insurance companies, so stay tuned! If you don’t see your insurance (above), I’d be happy to assist you with this process of inquiring about a single case agreement. Please note that for reimbursement purposes, I will have to give you a diagnosis which will follow you and be part of your permanent medical record.
